Even Our Soldiers Know the Importance of Having Great Brows

There’s a fantastic article in today’s Wall Street Journal about a recent trend of male US Soldiers who are getting their eyebrows shaped.  http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203791904576609163401024594.html?mod=WSJ_hp_MIDDLETopStories

At first, this had everyone at Billion Dollar Brows scratching their heads – after all, when you’re constantly worried about stepping on an IUD or getting shot by a sniper, the last thing you think you’d be worried about is shaping your brows.

After thinking about about it a bit though, it started to make sense.  First, life goes on, even in the middle of a war zone and if you’re a soldier who cares about your appereance back home, why would stop caring when you’re in-country?  Second, our military has always had a proud tradition of having exacting standards of appereance and dress.  Having groomed, nicely shaped eyebrows is simply a natural extension of this tradition.

Of course, this is mostly a trend started by the younger generation.  ”I don’t get it, I just don’t get – and you’re not going to get me to get it,”  Lt. Col Jerry Turner, age 42 said. The good news is that instead of squashing our soldier’s dreams of having groomed brows, which may have been the case fifty years ago, the military leadership is mostly just shaking their heads.  After all, how can you argue with Sgt. Matthew Cordell who has his unibrow cleaned up by a local Pakistani barber.  ”I tell them, ‘Don’t make me look like a girl.’”

Well, Sgt. Cordell, if you ever find yourself in Beverly Hills you can have as many brow shapings as you want, on the house at Billion Dollar Brows – and that goes for any members of our military. We even promise not to make you look like a girl!

Thick brows an annoyance?

This month’s Glamour brought up a really interesting point that we at Billion Dollar Brows think speaks to our culture’s generally unhealthy view of eyebrows.  The headline says, “10 ‘Annoyances’ That Actually Make You Cooler” and goes on to list common beauty annoyances such as “crooked teeth” and a “tooth gap.”  Number 7 on their list of annoyances were  ”Thick Eyebrows” and listed two actresses with thick brows: Camilla Belle and Jennifer Connelly.

Billion Dollar Brows has been in business for over eight years now and we’ll never get over the fact that so many people still think thin, when it comes to eyebrows, is always in.  Of course, if you’re reading this blog you most likely know that nothing could be further from the truth.  Pencil thin eyebrows harden and age you, adding unnecessary years to your looks.

Just take a look at all of the celebrities Glamour list in their article.  All of them, despite their “imperfections,” have at least one thing in common: perfectly coiffed brows that if not traditionally thick, are at least filled in with pencil, giving them the appearance of fuller, thicker brows.  These are some of the most beautiful women in the world, women who consult with some of the best makeup artists and stylists money can buy. Looking good is essential to their livelihoods, which is why you don’t see any skinny, anorexic looking brows on these actresses.

So yes, no one wants to have crazy caterpillar eyebrows like Andy Rooney. As with anything, too much of a good thing, in his case, eyebrows, is not always a good thing. With that said, Camilla Belle and Jennifer Connelly are nowhere near Andy Rooney-land, in fact, we think they pretty much have the model eyebrow.

Kudos to Glamour for setting the record straight and letting people know that its okay to rock your “annoying” thick brows.  If we at Billion Dollar Brows have anything to do with it, they’ll be writing an article in a few years telling you how to take pride in your “annoying” thin brows.
